Differences vs. Women's Golf Skirts

Years ago, there were ladies golf skirts and ladies golf skorts and they were very different for women to choose from. Golf skorts had built in shorts and golf skirts did not.

Today that distinction is basically gone as golf skirts are now advertised as including shorts or tights that are an essential part of golf skorts. While you ought to read all the brands descriptions, the differences between golf skorts and golf skirts are now irrelevant.

Now, these products are not the same. The differences lie in the rules as established by their respective governing bodies and the practicality inherent in these sports.

2 Key Differences

1) Lengths

Tennis skirts can be as short as 12 inches. However, in golf, skorts cannot be any shorter than 14 inches and a significant number of these items are 16 to 18 inches in length.

This actually makes sense. The flap of material in the front of skorts could get in the way of a tennis player if it is too long. Women tennis players will often choose the option of shorts to eliminate the issue all together.

2) Pockets

While there aren't rules about pockets in either sport, golfers need to carry things like tees, divot tools and score cards and especially an extra ball to avoid unnecessary trips to the cart. Carrying these items will help speed up play.

As a result, tennis pockets tend to be much shallower and indeed, the stylish tennis player may not have any pockets at all. Pros will often have ball boys and girls to toss them a ball for the serve.
